How to use Lensy effectively.

Last updated: 2 April 2026

What is Lensy

Lensy is a legal and regulatory intelligence platform. It helps individuals, founders, and professional teams research UK law, understand FCA regulation, analyse compliance obligations, and produce structured documents — faster and with more depth than general-purpose tools.

Lensy is not a law firm. It does not provide legal advice, financial advice, or any form of regulated professional service. It is an intelligence tool that helps you think more clearly about complex regulatory and legal questions. All consequential decisions should involve a qualified professional where appropriate.

The platform uses large language models trained on legal and regulatory material to generate responses. Outputs are structured to be useful and accurate, but they are not infallible. You should treat them as a starting point for analysis, not a final determination.

Getting started

Creating an account

Sign in or create an account at lensy.uk/login. Lensy supports email-based authentication. Once signed in, your conversations, preferences, and saved work are synced to your account and accessible across devices.

Starting a conversation

Type your question or prompt in the input at the bottom of the screen and press Enter or the send button. Lensy will respond with a structured answer. You can ask follow-up questions in the same conversation — Lensy maintains context throughout the session.

For best results, be specific. Include the relevant jurisdiction, regulatory body, or legal context where applicable. For example: “What are the FCA's disclosure requirements for appointed representatives under COBS 4?” will return a more precise response than a broad question about financial regulation.

Asking about UK law and regulation

Lensy has particular depth in UK law, FCA regulation, Companies House requirements, HMRC rules, and general financial compliance. You can ask about:

  • FCA authorisation, permissions, and supervised activity
  • Consumer Duty obligations and implementation
  • AML and KYC requirements under the Money Laundering Regulations
  • Companies Act obligations, director duties, and corporate governance
  • GDPR and UK data protection law
  • Employment law fundamentals
  • Contract drafting and clause analysis
  • Regulatory change tracking and impact assessment

Saving your work

Important outputs can be saved to your account from the message actions menu. Saved items are accessible from the Saved work section.

Intelligence modes

Lensy operates across several intelligence modes, each tuned for a different type of task. You can select a mode from the mode selector in the interface, or set a default in your preferences.

Balanced

The default mode. Provides well-rounded responses that blend accuracy, depth, and readability. Suitable for general legal and regulatory questions, explanations, and initial research.

Research

Optimised for depth and citation. Lensy will produce more structured responses with references to specific legislation, regulatory guidance, and authoritative sources where possible. Best for detailed compliance analysis, due diligence, or preparing briefing materials.

Creative

Suited to drafting, writing, and document generation tasks. Produces more expressive, narrative output. Appropriate for drafting policies, communications, or explanatory documents.

Legal

A focused mode for structured legal analysis. Responses follow a more formal structure — issue identification, applicable law, analysis, and conclusion. Useful when preparing materials for review by legal counsel or when working through complex regulatory questions methodically.

Response style

Independently of mode, you can configure a response style in preferences:

  • Concise — short, direct answers. Best for quick lookups and confirmations.
  • Balanced — standard depth. The default for most queries.
  • Detailed — thorough explanations with context. Best for complex topics where you want full coverage.

Memory

Lensy can remember context and preferences across conversations to provide more relevant, personalised responses over time.

What memory stores

When memory is enabled, Lensy retains information such as your areas of practice or interest, your organisation's regulatory context, preferences you have expressed, and summaries of past conversation themes. This allows Lensy to avoid repeating itself and to tailor responses to your situation without you needing to re-explain context each time.

Controlling memory

Memory can be enabled or disabled at any time from your preferences. When disabled, Lensy will not retain information between sessions. You can also reset your memory entirely from the settings, which removes all stored context without deleting your account.

Memory and privacy

Memory data is stored in your Lensy account and is covered by the same access controls as your other account data. It is not shared with other users. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

Local and incognito mode

For queries you prefer not to associate with your account, Lensy offers a local or incognito mode.

How it works

In incognito mode, your conversation is processed and a response is returned, but the conversation is not saved to your Lensy account when the session ends. Memory is not updated, and no record of the conversation appears in your history.

What is still processed

Even in incognito mode, your query must be transmitted to Lensy's servers to generate a response. Standard technical logs — including IP address and request metadata — may still be generated for security and infrastructure purposes. Incognito mode removes persistent account-level storage of your conversation, not server-side processing.

When to use it

Incognito mode is appropriate when you are researching a sensitive topic, exploring a hypothetical, or asking questions you do not want connected to your account history. It is not a complete anonymisation layer — if absolute anonymity is required, consider the network-level implications of your connection.

Limitations and disclaimer

Lensy provides intelligence outputs, not professional advice. This distinction matters — particularly when using the platform for legal, regulatory, or financial questions.

Outputs may be incorrect

Lensy uses AI to generate responses. AI outputs can contain errors, omissions, outdated information, or misstatements — including about the law. The legal and regulatory landscape changes frequently. You should verify any output that will inform a consequential decision before acting on it.

Not a substitute for professional advice

Lensy does not replace qualified legal counsel, FCA-regulated financial advisers, compliance professionals, or accountants. For matters with legal, financial, or regulatory consequences, obtain independent advice from a suitably qualified and regulated professional.

Jurisdiction

Lensy is optimised for UK law and regulation. Outputs relating to other jurisdictions may be less reliable. Always verify the applicable law for your situation and jurisdiction before relying on any output.

Your responsibility

The decisions you make using Lensy are yours. The platform is a tool to support your thinking — the judgement and accountability remain with you. Lensy accepts no liability for decisions made in reliance on its outputs. See the Terms of Service for the full scope of this limitation.
